How a Private Saona Tour Works

Book for your party size, get picked up in Punta Cana or Bayahibe, and set the pace with the crew.

  1. Book for Your Party

The starting price covers the boat for up to two people. Larger groups pay more: enter your number of guests in the calendar to see the price for your party.

  2. Pickup in Punta Cana or Bayahibe

The listing picks up in Punta Cana and Bayahibe; the coach to the boat takes about an hour from Punta Cana.

  3. The Pool Before the Crowd

A speedboat of your own reaches the natural pool ahead of the group catamarans, and the itinerary comes back to the pool on the way home.

  4. Lunch in Mano Juan

Lunch is in the island's fishing village, with time on Canto de la Playa afterwards. In season the crew can take you to the sea-turtle conservation project.

The Guide

What a Private Boat Changes on Saona

The island is the same. The timing, the stops and who you share the beach with are not.

Yes, you can take a private tour of Saona Island from Punta Cana: GetYourGuide lists a private speedboat and a private catamaran, each with its own crew, for your party alone. The one this page puts first is JAC Tours Punta Cana’s VIP Private Speedboat Escape to Saona Island: about 10.5 hours with pickup in Punta Cana or Bayahibe, the natural pool with a private open bar, lunch in the fishing village of Mano Juan and time on Canto de la Playa. It is from $760 for the boat, up to two people (checked October 2026), and rated 4.7 out of 5 from 14 reviews.

What “private” buys you on Saona

The group days follow one timetable: the pool, the main beach, the buffet, the catamaran home. A private boat changes the order and the company. The listing’s point is that a speedboat of your own reaches the natural pool before the group boats and gives you the sandbar and your own bar for 40 minutes, then comes back to the pool on the way home. Lunch is in Mano Juan, the island’s fishing village, instead of the big beach buffet, followed by 50 minutes on Canto de la Playa before the second stop at the pool. In season the crew can take you to the sea-turtle conservation project, and the listing mentions the flamingo lagoon behind one of the beaches.

The reviews describe what that freedom means in practice. An April family said they decided when to move on and where to stop. In October a group travelling with a disabled member wrote that the crew were kind and helped at every step, at their pace.

Speedboat or private catamaran?

The same operator sells both. The speedboat is quicker and costs about half as much: from $760 against $1,490 for the Exclusive Private Catamaran Tour to Saona Island, each for up to two (October 2026). The catamaran is the slow, comfortable option, with shade, music, a bar and room to spread out; one January family of six adults and a baby mentioned a bathroom and a shower on board. Its listing says the boat assigned varies with availability and group size, and one December 2025 guest found an older boat than the photos showed, so ask the operator about the boat before you book. Both pick you up in Punta Cana and Bayahibe; the catamaran also collects in Uvero Alto and La Romana.

What it costs for a group

The starting prices are for the boat with one or two people. Larger parties pay more, and the calendar shows the price for your number of guests once you enter it. For a couple the private speedboat works out at about $380 each, against $66 a person on the classic group day (October 2026), so you are paying for the empty sandbar, the village lunch and the timing. Tips for the crew and professional photos are extra on both private tours.

The middle option: a small group

If the price of a private boat is the obstacle, the small-group tours give you much of the same quiet for a fraction of it. They share the boat, but with a few dozen people instead of a catamaran full.

"A truly excellent experience, ideal for those seeking comfort and relaxation, with a boat practically at your complete disposal and without time constraints or predefined formulas. The staff was extremely courteous and always available, ready to meet every need. The cost isn't low, but it's absolutely in line with the level of service offered: for those who want to enjoy an excursion in total serenity and tranquility, it's really worth it. They were also very accommodating in managing stops and schedules, allowing us to stop as much as we wanted and fully appreciate the beauty of the island. Highly recommended for those looking for a quality, stress-free, and relaxing experience."
